The Black and White Photographic Darkroom. The main stage for the production of the Classic, Silver Print.
The Photographic Darkroom is the birthplace of a world of Black and White images ranging from the Sureal and Sublime to the most Utterly Real.
Over these past few years I have seen the Digital presence grow and spread to the point that it has pushed
the Classic Wet Print out to the fringes of the photographic art scene.
Some would say that the Classic Photographic Black and White Print is dying out because of the rise of Digital Photography. I disagree.
I see Digital Photography as a catalyst that has put the Classic Silver Print into its own niche.
The Classic Black and White Darkroom Print has become, and is becoming, a more sought after piece of collector Fine Art.
More and more we are seeing the spread of Black and White Photography in the Fine Art community.
The Classic Print genre is alive and well and growing stronger.

I believe the reason the Classic Black and White Darkroom Print is regaining its place is that the photographic scene
is saturated with the digitally produced, color boosted print, or the collage print of someone’s imagination.
We go thru our day-to-day lives seeing every thing in color.
Take away the color, even in an ordinary photo, and that piece of Black and White photography becomes surreal.
The mind is left with trying to imagine, "what   color   are   her   eyes" for instance. Take away the color and the scene instantly
becomes much more dramatic, much more captivating to the mind and to the eye.
Another point of interest in the production of the Classic Darkroom Print is in the
Mystery of producing the final Black and White Image.
A part of that mystery starts inside the camera.
A camera that has Black and White film in it is loaded with Mystery.
And People Need Mystery. The Mind Needs Mystery.
Shoot a roll of Black and White film and, if all the settings are correct,
the exposures should be good. What is, is.
The Mystery continues into the Darkroom where the film is developed. Then comes the personal,
hands-on attention to controlling contrast, burning, dodging and so on,
and the magic of watching the Black and White image come to fruition on paper.
Even when the final print is hung the Mystery continues for this is a Black and White Fine Art Print.

The Silver Print Darkroom came about as a colaboration with Working With Artists to add fuel to the enormous and very basic need
to fire the Imagination and kindle the Mystery
that the Classic Black and White Darkroom Print can bring to us all.

So, join us here at The Silver Print Darkroom along with WWA and help us to nurture the growth of the collective Imagination
and continue the Mystery that is so vital to us all.
Give the world what it needs thru your Photographic Images.
